Numerator – shows how many equal parts are being described

Denominator – shows the total number of equal parts in a whole.

How to: Same denominator compare the numerators 

1/4 < 2/3 

How to: Draw 2 fraction bars

divide first bar into 4 equal parts and shade 1 of 4

Divide second bar into 3 equal parts and shade 2 of 3 

Compare each to determine which is bigger in size.
