October, 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Its hard to believe that we are entering our second month of school.  By now the children have established their routines and their teachers are hard at work preparing challenging lessons for them. Every student should have the complete uniform by now.  Students are expected to be correctly attired at all times.  If there is a problem with obtaining a uniform, you need to send a note to the students teacher.

All students are expected to be at school on time.  We assemble in the gym for prayer and the pledge at 8am.  The students are escorted to their homerooms by 8:10am.  Please see to it that your child is present for morning prayer.  Its a wonderful way to begin the day praying together as a worshiping community.  Please see to it that your child does not begin a pattern of lateness which is very difficult to correct.

There are many important things happening this month so please pay close attention.  On Thursday Oct. 5th, we will hold a special High School Night for 8th grade students and their parents at 7 pm in the auditorium. Please be on time as we will begin promptly at 7pm. On Fri. Oct 6th, students in grades K-7 will have the opportunity to take individual photos as Lifetouch studios will be here. The order forms were sent out previously and every order must be accompanied by a form and payment. Students are to be dressed in full uniforms (no gym uniforms ? the students will be permitted to Dress Up for the Spring Pictures).

Terra Nova Testing for grades 3-8 begins on Tuesday October 10th and ends Friday 13th.  Please make sure your child is present every day for these important tests.  Also please ensure that they have a nutritious breakfast prior to coming to school.

The month of October is traditionally known as the month of the Rosary.  Catholics are invited to pray the Rosary in honor of the Blessed Virgin and we will continue this practice at the Academy.

On Tuesday Oct 11th, we will have a Rosary Rally. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend. (Specific details will be sent via Option C).

Permission slips for our first Academy trip Elf The Musical @ Madison Square Garden was sent home.  Tickets are $55per person.  Payment is on a first come first serve basis so please send in your forms ASAP. The show will take place on Thursday December 14th What a great way to begin the Christmas Season in the heart of NYC!!! We hope many will attend.

A special VIRTUS Training session has been scheduled for Wednesday October 18th at 7pm. This training is reserved for Academy parents and guardians only.  Remember only VIRTUS Trained parents are permitted to attend trips, volunteer at the Academy, assist with special functions, etc.  We hope many will take advantage of this opportunity.

Progress Reports will be sent home Thursday October 19th.  Please review the reports closely as this is the first indicator regarding your childs progress in school.

The 8th grade will have their Confirmation Retreat on Friday, Oct. 20th (details have been sent home from the Faith Formation Office).

Lastly SPA will be hosting a Halloween Party on Saturday October 28th.  Details and more information will be sent regarding the event.
